I am currently making the fabulous Santorini quilt by Alderwood Studio in a queen size. Which means A LOT of half square triangles. I am * almost * done making my first set of 120 HSTs and have found the 6.5″ Bloc-loc ruler to be the most invaluable tool ever. I bought this from a recommendation that I have now forgotten from where and honestly, I didn’t get the purpose of this ruler at a first. I don’t think I realized that one, it works for when you iron the seam to one side and secondly, it has a direction on how to lay the ruler out depending on which way the ironed seam lays. Something clicked this time and this tool has made cutting all these HST a breeze!! I wish I had this when making the Diamond Ripples quilt by Then Came June, would have a been a total life saver! (This quilt is still a work in a progress, but all the HST have long been prepped.)
I originally bought mine directly from the Bloc_Loc website, but you can now find them at the Fat Quarter Shop: Bloc_Loc 6.5″ Half-Square Triangle Square Up Ruler

The seam is pressed towards the darker fabric, notice the Bloc_loc turned the other way from the above picture so that the channel in the ruler fits along the pressed seam.
